About Us
Hello and welcome! We are David and Janine Palacio, and for over 30 years, our lives have been intertwined with the beauty and grace of Paso Fino horses. Our journey began as breeders, but as time went on, we saw a growing need to help these wonderful animals find loving homes and to share our knowledge with others.
At Happy Valley Horse Rescue, we don’t just save horses; we transform their lives. What sets us apart is our Synergy Horsemanship approach. Instead of forcing change or imposing control, we take the time to truly understand each horse. By fostering trust, respect, and communication, we help them heal emotionally and physically, preparing them for a second chance at life.
Most rescues focus on basic rehabilitation and rehoming—but we go further. Using Synergy Horsemanship, we create partnerships where horses and humans thrive together. This method allows even the most misunderstood or neglected horses to find peace and purpose.

What is Synergy Horsemanship
Most horse training methods focus on teaching techniques to control the horse—getting them to obey commands or correct bad behavior. Synergy Horsemanship is different. It’s not about controlling the horse; it’s about inspiring the human to grow.
Instead of seeing a misbehaving horse as a problem to fix, Synergy Horsemanship encourages us to look at ourselves first. By mastering our emotions, staying calm, and communicating clearly, we create an environment where the horse naturally wants to connect with us.
It’s like the difference between forcing someone to listen and creating a relationship where they want to listen. This approach doesn’t rely on punishment or domination—it’s about building trust, respect, and harmony.

David Palacio: With a background as a farrier, David has spent years working with some of the top show horses, always prioritizing their health and well-being. His experience has taught him the importance of compassionate care and meticulous attention to detail.

Janine Palacio: As the heart and soul behind our farm, Janine has dedicated herself to training and showing Paso Finos. Her love for these horses is evident in everything she does, from daily care to the joy she takes in seeing them thrive.
Our Home
Nestled in the horse capital of Ocala, Florida, we are fortunate to be next door to the World Equestrian Center – the largest of its kind in the USA. Our location places us in the heart of the equestrian community, surrounded by people who share our passion for horses.

Building a Community through Horse Rescue and Sanctuary
At Happy Valley Horse Rescue 501 (c) 3, we are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for horses in need. Through education and community engagement, we aim to create a space where both animals and people thrive. Our commitment to horse rescue and sanctuary is driven by a passion for ensuring the well-being of these magnificent beings.
We firmly believe that by educating individuals about the plight of horses, we can prevent unnecessary suffering, and with the support of our community, we can make a lasting impact.
We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses that have faced neglect, abuse, or abandonment. But what truly sets us apart is how we involve our community in this journey.
When you stay at our sanctuary through our Airbnb program, you experience more than just a place to rest. You have the opportunity to participate in the daily care of our horses, learning about their stories and witnessing their transformation. It's a unique and rewarding way to connect with these incredible animals and support their journey to recovery. Importantly, all proceeds from our Airbnb stays go directly to funding our rescue efforts, ensuring that every guest contributes to the well-being of our horses.
Our volunteer program offers another way to make a difference. Whether you're experienced with horses or simply passionate about helping, we welcome your support. Volunteers assist with everything from feeding and grooming to barn maintenance and community outreach. Every bit of help makes a significant impact on the lives of our horses.
We also rely on the generosity of our supporters. Donations, sponsorships, and spreading the word about our work all contribute to our ability to provide top-notch care for our horses. Your support ensures that every horse that comes through our gates receives the love and care they deserve.
